We are recruiting a Director of Finance – Continental Europe, based in the Hague, Netherlands.

This role has overall responsibility for delivery of all financial aspects in relation to the Dutch, German and French property ventures, the Pan-European Open-Ended Fund and the corporate finance strategy.  This role will also have responsibility for overseeing the financial reporting of Greystar’s regulated entity (Dutch AIFM).  

The job holder will oversee financial planning and budgets, design and implement business systems and processes, build and manage a team, and ensure compliance with the Company’s accounting procedures as well as generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

The Finance Director will report to the Managing Director of Corporate Services and play an active role as a senior leader within the Continental European business.  The role will require exceptional leadership and accounting skills as well as strong commercial awareness to advise business leaders on key decisions.  

Role Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee the financial activities for Dutch, German, French and Pan-European joint ventures and funds (regulated and unregulated) including oversight of outsource providers (BNY, Sanne, etc.) 
  • Oversee financial reporting for Greystar’s Dutch AIFM and other regulated vehicles.
  • Managing and providing leadership to the local finance team by interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing team members and managing their performance in accordance with the Company’s established human resource policies, values, and business procedures. 
  • Leading and managing annual corporate budgeting and business planning by providing historic and predictive financial data and reviewing proposed budgets for compliance with the Company’s established financial targets and goals.
  • Leading the timely completion and distribution of financial reports to investors, lenders and key business leaders, assisting in resolving discrepancies and variances in actuals-to-budget and responding to client requests, questions and issues related to the on-going financial performance of properties. 
  • Serving as primary legislative liaison relating to company financial issues, directs financial audits by coordinating with internal and external agencies, and provides recommendations for procedural improvements as necessary. 
  • Oversee the implementation of tax structures and ongoing tax compliance (corporate tax returns, VAT returns, etc) working with 3rd party advisers and the European tax director. 
  • Driving a culture of financial awareness and overseeing the development of appropriate internal controls across the business, without creating unnecessary bureaucracy or negatively impacting the pace of change.
  • Managing the development and integration of financial accounting systems.
  • Providing management information and dashboards that help the business respond and make good decisions.
  • Controlling all cash management, financial transactions and accountancy matters.
  • Completes other reasonable duties as assigned or as necessary

Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • Fully qualified accountant (international experience preferred) – the job holder is likely to require at least 6 + years post qualified experience (RA or similar)
  • Solid leadership experience.
  • Strong financial and management accounting background with demonstrated proficiency in financial statement analysis in order to review, audit, reconcile, and produce accurate detailed financial reports and that demonstrates the application and usage of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of Alternative Investment Fund Management Directive (AIFMD); experience with Annex IV filings
  • Proficiency in workflow and project management, financial modelling and budgeting procedures in order to develop and implement budget management tools and templates.
  • Good grasp of interpreting legal documents and facility agreements.
  • Good understanding of VAT and Tax (structuring and statutory reporting).
  • Strong experience in budgeting and cash flow forecasting as well as consolidation.
  • Audit experience and ability to liaise with and coordinate auditors.
  • Understanding and experience of the development and integration of financial accounting systems.
  • Fluency in 1 or more additional European languages is desirable.
